As a creative thinker who likes freedom to explore ideas and possibilities, me and structure have had a mixed relationship.
I thought structure meant restriction.
I thought restriction was the opposite to creative freedom.
But.
To have structure in your life, of the things that don’t add value (to you), means you create more freedom.
For example - The less time you spend in the morning on what to wear means more time to do something else more important (to you) like 10 minutes of yoga you don’t have time for right now.
The artist’s George and Gilbert are famous for doing the same thing everyday until they get to their studio. They wear the same clothes, same breakfast, walk the same route. So that they conserve their energy for the studio.
Intentional structure can support our creative thinking time.
Structure frees up time.
Can you put more structure into your life that would then free up time to do things you really want to do?
