Oooh! Late to send. I was outside in the garden enjoying wine, sunshine and listening to The Blessed Madonna on R6.
I was thinking about simple today. And that things are never simple. But we really want simplicity in our lives. That life would be so much better if things were simple.
It’s maybe the hardest thing in life to accept that things are never simple (or fair).
If we can accept simple is complicated life becomes easier.
I was thinking about the simple idea that people were Tweeting today. Along the lines of ‘The Jubilee is costing £50m, the Royal Family costs £87m a year, lets use the money better…’ kind of thing. A simple idea. But then the complexity is the Royal Family (it is argued) also bring in an estimated £550m tourism (UK Tourism) every (usual) year. So actually not a bad investment! It is estimated that the UK will spend £406m (Centre for Retail Research) over the bank holiday 4 days, boosting retail, hospitality and travel sectors. It’s a reminder of That Bus. NHS £325m Brexit Bus. Campaigners know that we crave simplicity. Maybe at the expense of truth?
If that, then this. Simple.
But it rarely is.
That’s not to say we just accept complexity without challenge. But knowing life is never straight forward, never simple, certainly makes things easier to handle.
