Inspiration can be found in the most unusual places sometimes. This year I watched ‘I’m a celebrity’ (it’s weird, I watch it because I felt I should, I think I should be enjoying this more, maybe just need to give it more time, oh it’s over) anyway, I watch it, and was provoked by something Naughty Boy said (Shahid, record producer).
I did not know that Naughty Boy got his first break by winning £44,000 on Deal or No Deal TV Show.
“I thought I have to think out of the box. If what I want to do is ridiculous, then to get there I’m going to have to do something equally ridiculous. And a game show was that. But I didn’t know I was gonna win £44,000!” Naughty Boy
It wasn’t the win that was the break.
He gave himself the break by doing something ridiculous and then keeping up the ridiculousness by investing in a studio.
Then he backed himself again by approaching Emeli Sande, a brilliant singer who was just breaking through, ridiculous!
She believed in him. He believed in her. They grew together. They thought ridiculously together.
And he started producing for Beyonce, Rihanna, Madonna… all completely ridiculous!
So it got me thinking. If we want to do things differently, if we want to be different, for whatever reason is driving us to want it, then maybe being a little but, or a lot, ridiculous isn’t a bad idea.
Maybe my ridiculous is to post a blog, a thought note, an idea, every day for a year. Not the most ridiculous idea, but who knows where it might go.
If you have ridiculous goals you’ve got to be ridiculous and do ridiculous.
So are you being ridiculous enough?
(Not sure if ridiculous is also sleeping in a cold castle in Wales drinking fungal smoothies, but we all have our own version of ridiculous!)

I’ve often been known to ‘act on impulse’, have ‘5 minute wonders’ and they may have sometimes been ridiculous - but I’ve never regretted any of my ridiculous notions and actions! Especially through the lockdown and a time of huge personal change, I found amazing opportunities from pushing myself out of my comfort zone and having lots of ridiculous ideas! I think it was because I felt there were no chains or conventions holding me back or what I had to conform to.
I think I have sparks of ridiculousness, but then when I actually think about them they’re not that ridiculous at all! Ridiculousness set me on a path to joining the RNLI crew at Tower, with the only boating experience I had being on a pedalo when I was 10 😆 I hope this year brings more ridiculousness for sure 🤪
