I’m just back from London. Up crack of dawn for a 3 hour train journey and just got home. Completely exhausted but a 7 year old to wrestle to bed before a feet up moment!
I love my trips to London.
I think it’s the best city in the World.
But it’s easy not to notice that.
I take a taxi now, a little treat instead of the underground. And I make an effort to look out of the window. Put the phone away, the pointless scrolling, the stolen attention. And look out of the window.
It’s the architecture that I notice the most. The detail on the buildings. And the change of use. Court Houses that are now restaurants, banks that are now hotels, even storage containers that are now cafes and small shops.
Noticing that things change but somethings stay the same.
Wondering why they protected some buildings but not others.
Thinking about what will be the next reimagination for them.
The streets are always changing. The way we shop, socialise, work, but what does this mean for buildings and a city?
Will we notice how it changes?
Or just keep focused on our news feed, and let our attention dissolve in the screen, and not notice what is going on outside.
What have you noticed recently?
