Ok. So something happened this morning. And it's changed my whole life.
Ok maybe not.
That's a bit dramatic.
But.
For the last 22 years I have absolutely loved Loaded by Primal Scream.
It's the song I put on to feel better.
Sing out loud 'Have fun and loosen up. We want to be free to do what we want to do...' and all that.
As a big fan of Bobby Gillespie I'm reading his autobiography at the moment. A brilliant ramble of his story with not much left out!
But today things changed.
It's not ‘Have Fun And Loosen Up’.
It is in fact 'I don't wanna lose your love'.
All. This. Time.
I have been completely mishearing.
But my mishearing has been very convenient for me.
Convenient mishearing.
‘Don’t want to lose your love’ does not have the same euphoric uplift.
For me it will always be 'have fun and loosen up'. And that is ok, because once you have created art, created something, then it is no longer yours to apply meaning, you must let others have their own meaning, even if it's wrong. I read that somewhere, I think it was Grayson Perry.
And it has got me thinking…
What else have I been conveniently mishearing al this time?
What about you?
What have you misheard?
