I’ve just finished my training in Nancy Kline’s Time to Think.
It’s completely changed the way I facilitate gatherings, run coaching sessions, hold meetings.
And once you know it you can’t unsee it!
One of the take outs was about interrupting people. We all the know the traditional way, just plain rude talk over someone, or getting our laptops out, but there are other things we do.
Nodding! Nodding is interrupting. I nod all the time. It’s my way of encouraging people. But in this training we have exploded that it’s actually interrupting someone else’s flow. As is taking notes!! Yes!!! Having people scribbling while you are talking can interrupting your thoughts.
So far from it being a sign people are listening, it might be taking you off your path.
I like this kind of training. That challenges what we think we know. And makes us rethink how we do things.
I think there is a good balance, and knowing when to use all the tools is one of the skills. But it makes you think doesn’t it.
What are we unintentionally interrupting?
