Encanto - have you seen it yet?
We don’t talk about Bruno.
So, I’m in full flow of my writing each day. I’ve established a nice routine and I look forward to seeing what comes out of my head when I start writing.
The point of these daily nudges was not to share well thought through scientifically proven facts and theories, or beautifully crafted notes.
The point is the opposite. To see what happens when you free think, for yourself, without worrying about what anyone else this.
My words are there to stimulate your thoughts. Not really to teach, advise, guide. More to provoke, to see what your free thoughts say to you.
So I’m really enjoying it.
Until Bruno shows up.
Bruno is a bit mischievous. He frowns quite a bit at what I do. He tells me things. He says ‘really, what are you doing?’
He showed up when someone subscribed that I really admire - I thought my god why are they subscribing, I need to up my game.
He showed up when I joined Substack Go writers group - all these real writers. who do it properly, what am I doing there!
So Bruno needs to hush.
None of these thoughts are useful.
(And the writer thing, I’m author with Penguin Random House, not sure why I (and Bruno) can’t get head around that!).
So the feeling of imposter that Bruno can sometimes provoke, is real, and needs acknowledging, but also I think it’s ok to feel a bit imposter.
A lot of people I work with say they have imposter syndrome, and it stops them from taking action. They feel like they aren’t worthy of success, or they shouldn’t be in the room.
But you can feel a bit like that and still take action, do it anyway!
I mean, we see a lot of people in the public eye, and around us who maybe need a little more imposter, or Bruno awareness.
It’s a good thing to have an element of imposter syndrome - have you ever met someone who has absolutely no self doubt, who tells themselves every day how dam great they are?
I think everyone needs an element of imposter, otherwise we are just an asshole.
So maybe Bruno is ok hanging around, but he isn’t always right.
Make friends with your Imposter, listen to what they are saying, but don’t let them stop you doing it anyways!
We can talk to Bruno, he’s Ok.
