This morning I read an article interviewing Barry and Eddie Hearne, the father and son boxing promoters.
In the article Barry (father) said he worried for his son (Eddie) as he was growing up having everything he wanted. He worried he wouldn’t have the fight in him to be successful.
So when Eddie was 18, Barry made him fight him in the boxing ring. And when he saw that he could fight he felt better, that Eddie had fight in him.
I don’t know much more about Eddie (and Barry) than the article. I know Eddie wrote a successful book about Success because it was in the charts when my book came out, at one point my book was charted directly under Eddie’s. (Yep that’s my claim to fame!) And I know Eddie was the promoter for the recent Katie Taylor boxing match (GO KATIE!). But not much else.
So I try to put the judgement and statements of Barry to one side (“I’m proud because he is now me”) and just think about having ‘enough fight to be successful’.
Do we need always need fight?
Is fight bigger, more aggressive, more focused than resilience?
Is fight the thing that makes you resilient?
What is fight?
You can see this gave me much to ponder today as I was weeding the garden, fighting with the nettles and those sticky weeds that spread everywhere, in every crack they find!
What’s your thoughts on Fight?
Have you got it?
Do you need it?
If you don’t fight for it, do you deserve it?
