I was talking to a friend today, one of those flowing conversations, where we were discussing EVERYTHING.
And how EVERYTHING just feels so overwhelming and Too Much. How unfairness and in-justice feels like the domineering force. How it feels like we are going backwards (whatever Backwards might mean). How it feels like social divide is getting wider, when we all thought we were all signed up for closing the gap. How it feels like the World is speeding towards the finish line, but none of us really want to be in the race. That kind of Too Much.
And I was reminded about Control. That sometimes we have more control than we think.
A reminder that we are always in control of our responses. Just sometimes it’s hard to grab hold of and steer.
A reminder that we can choose where to point our energy. And usually we can all use our energy in better ways.
So it felt like a good time to go back to the Circle of Concern.
When things start to feel Too Much, it’s good to bring ourselves back into our circle of control.
Here we can have more impact, direct energy to the things that matter, more likely to contribute.
It can feel like the World is folding in on itself.
We can feel powerless, hopeless.
But look in your circle.
It’s always surprising what difference we can make when we focus on what we can control.
