I did a panel talk today with Scottish Brand AFBE. I’ve done a few of their events, there is always such a great energy. They ask questions with intent to act. It’s in the air! You know they are hanging on every word being said.
For the second time my fellow panelist was Sam Soyombo. This guy is just energy! Anyway, we were talking about the title of my book, could it really be a good thing to lose your job, what if people are really struggling.
And then Sam came out with this brilliant line ‘I started living after I went bankrupt’.
He continued to share that he completely reevaluated everything. That he saw things differently. That he believed in himself even more (eventually). He talked about validating your dreams. Check they really are your dreams and not just fantasy. He shared he had always dreamed of being a chef, but he tried it out and reality was far from his goals.
So. One of those brilliant moments when you can see people connecting with the story and realising that changing career might get a bit messy, but that’s ok. There is always opportunity to grow and learn.
Sam might have gone bankrupt financially but he was far from bankrupt energetically.
(We also decided he needed to write his book ‘Why going bankrupt might turn out to be the moment you start living’.)
